On Monday, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, the Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, announced his stance on pro-abortion politicians and their place in the Catholic Church.

LifeSite News reports:

[The question of whether pro-abortion Catholics should recieve Communion] applied particularly to those who engaged in promotion of “abortion on demand,” as well as laws violating the “dignity of human life…the integrity of human sexuality, marriage and the family, and…the free practice of religion.”

This “touches on the very foundations of the Church’s teaching regarding faith and morals,” wrote the cardinal, who re-presented the Church’s teaching in his statement, so as to help those who are “rightly confused and indeed frequently scandalized by the all too common public betrayal of the Church’s teaching on faith and morals by those who profess to be Catholic.”

Quoting directly from canon law, Cardinal Burke wrote: “Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.”

He also added that since pro-abortion politicians act outside of God’s law and that of the Catholic Church, inspired by God, pro-abortion politicians are automatically excommunicated.

“Those who publicly and obstinately violate the moral law are, at least, in a state of apostasy, that is, they have effectively abandoned the faith by the obstinate refusal, in practice, to live in accord with fundamental truths of faith and morals (cf. can. 751),” wrote Burke, formerly the prefect of the Church’s highest court.

“An apostate from the faith incurs automatically the penalty of excommunication (cf. can. 1364).” Burke noted that the person’s bishop was also required to “verify the conditions” for the excommunication, although it had been “automatically incurred.”

If a politician continues in his rejection or doubt of the truth concerning the “intrinsic evil of abortion, as it ‘is to be believed by divine and Catholic faith’ (can. 751),” then the individual may also be in “heresy,” revealed the cardinal.

Such a state also “automatically” leads to excommunication, although once again, the individual’s bishop must verify the conditions” for the automatically incurred excommunication.

“The failure to follow the discipline results in the desecration of the most sacred reality in the Church – the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ – , constitutes the most grave sin of sacrilege, and causes most serious scandal by the failure to witness to the truth of Holy Communion and the moral truth, for example, the inviolable dignity of human life, the integrity of marriage and the family, and the freedom to worship God ‘in spirit and truth’.”

Do you agree with Cardinal Burke that pro-abortion politicians are “automatically” excommunicated from the Catholic Church?

I’m so so happy the Catholic church is taking a stand on the abortion issue. And taking actions to excommunicate those who openly condone it. Wish the protestant churches would do the same. It is totally against God’s word. God says he hates the shedding of innocent blood and what is more innocent than a baby in the womb.

You know Protestant churches or any Christian church shouldn’t allow membership if refusal to repent from intentional sins.. Repentance of sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as one’s Savior followed by Babtism would be a great step forward.

THEY ARE SUBHUMAN, DEFECTIVE, DISGUSTING, EVIL, VILE wastes of life. WE NEED LAWS THAT PROTECT THE INNOCENT. ANY WHO’D kill innocent helpless child for convenience or profit MUST BE SMITTEN BY THE HAND OF GOD. THESE ARE NOT CHILDREN OF GOD, BUT OFFSPRING OF SATAN. SAVE THE CHILDREN, KILL THE. I agree but they don’t seem to understand. I feel there needs to be a public type announcement so they themselves understand this. The fact that Biden and Pelosi portray themselves as Catholic shows this. Pelosi even stated that the sisters she had teaching her in the past are the reason she is the way she is. Someone higher up in the church needs to go to them and explain it to them. Personally, face to face, not just state “they know church teaching”. Maybe Cardinal Burke should visit them? Then if they continue publicly excommunicate them. Make a big deal out of it. Remember St.Thomas Beckett.

Both Biden and Pelosi are then by this Cardinals both excommunicated and declared Apostate and Sacrilegious, so they both can no longer claim to be good Catholics in any way shape or form. Lots of time in Purgatory followed by an eternity in Hell. Way to go you scum.

Unless the apostates self-identify during services, or sport a scarlet E on forehead or a patch of some sort, they can continue to receive communion, no? In any event, best that the excommunication comes from the Pope, not a likely event at all. In any case, does the Cardinal’s action affect everyone in the world, the country or only the residents in the area he controls???

Forget that abortion violates church teachings and it’s a sin. Look at the damage that it is doing to our society! Promoting irresponsibility, lack of self esteem, disrespect for the persondhood and the opposite sex, lack of respect for the sanctity of personal intimacy and turning it into just another “let’s have fun and if a mistake is made we’ll murder this precious life”. All for the purpose of getting votes!!!!!!!

All politicians and all church members should be included. If you vote to put these evil Democrat’s into positions of power you will have to explain that to our Lord on judgement day. Good luck with that

So, what does this actually mean? Have Mr. Biden*, pretender to the presidency, and Speaker Pelosi really been excommunicated due to their stance on abortion or are the Cardinal’s words just as empty as are so many of the other admonishments against the progressive socialist agenda of the left? Is this just a verbal slap on the wrist or is the Catholic Church finally going to stand up and make public their policy of excommunicating those who profess to be part of the Church, but actually only use it as a cover for political expediency? My suggestion to the Church would be–put up or shut up.

I never have believed in the Catholic Church only because they are the branch off of the Roman Catholic’s yes the same one who had CHRIST JESUS put to death. Why would I go to a place like that. The churches have been corrupted. If you seek the LORD you will find HIM. the best way to understand GOD ALMIGHTY is to read the HOLY BIBLE and ask for guidance. May GOD BE WITH US ALL for we truly are living in the end times. He does say many will be deceived. In the last days. We all see this happening now. This world we live in is filled with lies. Trust only in GOD ALMIGHTY AND HIS SON CHRIST JESUS.If not eternity is a long time to be wrong. I will leave on that note.

It was the prominent Jews of the time who really are to blame for the death of Jesus. They were worried that He was getting too popular. Also, the Romans of that time were pagans, not Catholics.

Thank You Cardinal Burke. It is about time that Catholics have leaders that believe in God’s words and laws. Pray for those who promote death, especially for financial gains or politicians that work to make kickbacks from insurance companies that save money when someone commits suicide. We are all sinners and need forgiveness but these people are greedy and have no regard d for their very own souls. Just stop and think as Eternity is a very long, never ending time. I pray that pro death people will finally come to their senses.

Do I agree? Not really. Why did Dolan have to leave the door ajar for the excommunicated’s bishop to “verify the conditions…”, etc., etc.? This is going nowhere. Dolan is playing an old and boring game. We know from simple observation that there will be MANY bishops ready to positively “verify” that there’s no basis for excommunication. Just by way of example: there’s one of them in DC (…and another one in Rome…)

As a Christian or Catholic Christian the results are the same in many ways. Life is very high on what should be protected. Pro life means just that. If pro abortion is your stance that goes against God’s truth and His Commandments. I believe if Biden doesn’t repent as a Christian he should be removed from the church. That should be the truth for anyone that refuses to repent from obvious sins against God’s church. We all are sinners but He gave us a way to be made righteous thru Jesus Christ.

Cardinal Burke is correct about the excommunication and we have 2 individual who are at the top of the list they are Biden and peliouser both Catholics who say and side with pro- abortion, two murderers who are trying to force us to pay for the murder of an innocent child, they as hypocrites should not be allowed to take Holy Communion , kick them out they are truly bad Catholics!

I am not a Catholic but was raised in a christian home by a minister ” my father”. It was always pointed out that as “it is writen the bible” fore you to receive communion to examine your self before you receive communion so to cleans your soul . God will take care of the rest if you are unclean. I see no reason to excommunicate a member even thought they are wrong . Let GOD do what he think is best and don’t try to do Gods work fore Him.

I have long been puzzled as to why abortion and LGBTQ are even a question open for discussion in the Catholic church. Both are, straight up, against the very basic tenants of Catholicism and as each issue came about the Pope at that time should have immediately spoke the truth that if you are an abortion proponent then you are out of the church, not just can’t take communion but out….as in gone, as is no longer a Catholic, as in excommunicated. Roe v Wade came about in 1973 and there have been a number of Popes since then but not a one has had the balls to tell the truth. To make matters worse, you have Biden and Pelosi not only claiming to be Catholic while advocating the murder of unborn children, but they claim to be DEVOUT Catholics. That is sick and it is time for the Pope to tell the truth. One priest really told the truth and that was if you vote for anyone advocating murdering unborn children, you can not be in the Catholic church.

Oh, never mind….I forgot, there’s money involved and so can’t do that as there would be a great loss of money so we’ll have to overlook these murders. Of course they’re short on money as they have to pay out millions to those children molested by priests for years but covered up by the church. And where are the voices of the hundreds of nuns molested, forced to have sex with the priests and the forced to abort the resulting babies?? Have they no courage to speak up to defend their faith and the church in the face of such evil within??

It is about time! Now if the Cardinals tell these politicians is another thing. The Catholic church must be sure that all the Cardinals who have these politicians in their districts tell these politicians that they are excommunicated. Will they? It remains to be seen. Money talks.
