According to analysis of Gallup’s polls on abortion by Megan Brennan, “Americans remain much more likely to believe abortion should be legal ‘only under certain circumstances’ (48%) than to favor it being legal ‘under any circumstances’ (32%) or ‘illegal in all circumstances’ (19%).”

Life News reports:

Gallup further probes those who think abortion should be legal tain circumstances by asking whether they think it should be legal in “most” or “only in a few” situations. Since 1994, when this measure was first tracked, the group has leaned much more heavily toward the more restrictive option. Currently, 33% favor legal abortions in only a few and 13% in most circumstances. This translates into 52% supporting a more restrictive approach on abortion, saying it should be either illegal in all circumstances [19%]  or legal in only a few. Meanwhile, 45% favor a less restrictive approach, preferring that it be legal in all or most circumstances.

According to David Crary, a June poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found 65% said abortion should usually be illegal in the second nd 80% said that about the third trimester.

Reporter Jasper Scherer:

Among the state’s three largest racial and ethnic groups, Latino Texans expressed the strongest approval for the [Texas Heartbeat Act], with 58 percent supporting it, compared to 55 and 47 percent of white and Black residents, respectively.

Otherwise, the law was supported by 59 percent of men, 52 percent of women, 74 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Democrats. Mirroring the statewide total, 55 percent of independents said they approve of the law.

Should be legal and a limit at 20 weeks, jmho. I am no fan of abortion but understand that you are not going to take it away now. The Texas law is too restrictive and makes an issue where there should be none. Keeping it legal but making it a 6 week window is silly, a clear way that Republicans sabotage themselves getting mired into an argument they can’t win instead of arguing for other policies that we all believe in as well. Hijacking your own platform for one issue is the way Republicans seem to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The only people slightly less dumb than Democrat members of Congress are Republican members of Congress.

Killing unborn babies because they are an inconvenience is no different than killing your children because they are an inconvenience. It’s no different than killing your elderly parents because they are an inconvenience. So happy to hear the American people are slowly but surely coming to the side of life. Thanks to all who have tirelessly fought for the right to life for all.
