You’ve likely heard it a thousand times. “If you think abortion is wrong because she chose to take a risk, what about rape?” While the issue of abortions in the case of rape is a complex one, it’s often misrepresented in a few key ways. One of these is that even in cases of rape, women struggle with severe pain and regret from their abortions.

From LifeNews:

“Ending the life of a preborn human being, regardless of how she was conceived, does not address the crime of her father and does not improve the primary victim’s mental health outcomes,” said Dr. Christina Francis, an Indiana OB-GYN and CEO-elect of the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

In an interview with The Federalist, Francis expressed compassion for victims of sexual abuse while pointing out that abortion is not a proven physical or psychological treatment for their trauma.

“Women and girls who have been through this tragic experience deserve the best health care, both physical and mental, that we can possibly provide,” she said. “They deserve to be treated with methods that have been proven to actually improve their outcomes.”

Francis highlighted a survey by the Elliot Institute that found between 50 percent and 80 percent of women who conceived unborn babies from rape chose to carry their baby to term.

It’s no secret that abortion doesn’t solve the problems caused by rape, but in reality, it makes them much worse. A full 80% of those who went through with abortions regretted them severely after the fact.

Some women said their abortion felt like a second “medical rape” and only added to their trauma

Francis explained that what rape survivors really need is trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy or psychodynamic therapy. They need people to show them compassion, to listen to their concerns, their worries, and their struggles.

According to The Life Institute, sexual assault victims often abhor organizations using their stories to promote abortion. One survivor said the following:

“I, having lived through rape, and also having raised a child ‘conceived in rape,’ feel personally assaulted and insulted every time I hear that abortion should be legal because of rape and incest. I feel that we’re being used by pro-abortionists to further the abortion issue, even though we’ve not been asked to tell our side of the story.”

I would urge you to click that link and learn about the stories of Ryan Baumberger, Mika Scott, Valerie Gatto, and many others if you haven’t already.

Regardless of the controversy, abortion is always murder and is never justified. Even in cases of rape. That child deserves to see the light of day regardless of how hard their life might be.

Abortion for any reason is still the murdering of the most innocent of all life in the womb of the mothers.
God does offer forgiveness for this crime, just as He will offer forgiveness for any crime if there is a true repentance of this crime, and if you are not believing in this forgiveness, I can offer you the proof of God’s forgiveness.
