Although Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022, President Biden only briefly mentioned abortion during the 2023 State of the Union.

Biden has continuously run on reestablishing nationwide abortion in the United States since Roe v Wade was overturned, however, since many of his proposals and ideas have fizzled out, Biden largely ignored the topic when the cameras were on.

During the 2023 State of the Union, Biden touched very briefly on the topic of abortion, saying:

“The vice president and I are doing everything we can to protect access to reproductive health care and safeguard patient privacy. But already, more than a dozen states are enforcing extreme abortion bans.

Make no mistake; if Congress passes a national abortion ban, I will veto it.”

With this statement, Biden yet again reaffirmed his commitment to reestablishing nationwide abortion, coming after “extreme abortion bans.”. While many advocates on both sides of the issue have been critical of Biden’s lack of more explicit action, little action has been necessary to this point, as politically centrist states and left-wing states have done very little to end infanticide and other extreme pro-abortion measures. Although, at this time it appears that Biden is not willing to use the full power of his office to enact sweeping reforms, however, it’s likely that in 2024 more bombastic promises will be made to his left-wing voters when he needs to attempt to win yet another election.
