Florida pastor, Rev. Terri Steed Pierce, has criticized Florida’s soon-to-be-new 6-week abortion ban in a recent guest column in Florida’s Orlando Sentinel. The pastor had claimed in the article that the bill was “not of God” and that the six-week abortion ban bill was overall “unacceptable.” Overall, Rev. Pierce said that the choice to kill an unborn baby was okay because “God gave us free will.”

Pierce is the lead pastor of the Joy Metropolitan Community Church. The Joy Church is, according to LifeNews, “created for and by the LGBTQ+ community.”

The Florida bill passed in the State’s Senate Monday will, once signed into law, save thousands of unborn babies a year. Not only will the bill save unborn babies it will provide funding to help pregnant and parenting mothers. Though Pierce, in her column, portrayed this important piece of pro-life legislation to be harmful and hateful.

Rev. Pierce wrote,

“I trust that when you are faced with making decisions about your life that you also look at the big picture. Politicians who make harmful decisions and laws will never be in a position to know what we need for our lives better than we do.”

“God is love and love brings choice. Love does not coerce, decide for or demand. Love empowers us to make our own choices. Lawmakers say they’re removing our ability to make choices for ourselves because of their belief in God, but even God gives us the freedom to decide. How can faith be the excuse used to strip us of the agency that our Creator has given to all of us?”

Pierce continued on essentially saying this important abortion ban is going against God, and that we should be able to have the freedom to make choices in life as that is what God would want. What a nonsense argument. Abortions destroy God’s unique creations. How could a pastor see destroying that life to be something God would freely be okay with?
