The Lord is winning in Texas. In Texas, a pro-life organization has turned a former abortion facility into a pro-life-affirming pregnancy center after years of prayer. After increased laws against abortion in the state, and finally, the fall of Roe v. Wade, the Whole Woman’s Health Center in McAllen, Texas closed its doors. Opening up the potential for the McAllen Pregnancy Center to take the building and turn it into something special.

The McAllen Pregnancy Center’s founder Yolanda Chapa told Pillar “that using a former abortion clinic to serve mothers and children is a ‘huge, huge win for the Lord.'” Chapa, 80, had said that she spent seventeen years praying in front of the Whole Woman’s Health facility. “From 7 in the morning until like 1,” she would pray with her rosary and talk to women. Chapa even claimed she saw hundreds of women change their minds in front of the abortion facility she has called “the mill.”

In May 2008, Chapa opened the McAllen Pregnancy Center only three doors down from the abortion facility. Being so close to the facility Chapa’s new center was able to be the reference point for many young women who needed someone to talk to or were second-guessing abortion. In some rare cases, women from longer distances came to the center seeking the location three doors away for an abortion and left with a medical appointment and tips to lead a healthy pregnancy.

Now, Chapa and the McAllen Pregnancy Center will be expanding into the once “shuttered abortion clinic” turning it into a safe space where new parents can come for parenting classes, counseling programs, free pregnancy tests, and a free baby boutique offering diapers, clothes, and other baby supplies to new parents for up to three years. The new building will allow the organization to expand and have more room in order to help those in need – by the grace of God.
