Renowned pop superstar, Taylor Swift, brought a moment of joy to a young fan at her Eras Tour concert at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Grace DelVecchio, a 12-year-old ‘Swiftie’ who has Down Syndrome, was left feeling special and excited after Swift knelt down and placed the fedora on her head while singing “22,” one of the artist’s popular tunes.

Grace and her dad, Michael DelVecchio, attended Swift’s concerts on June 26 and 28 at MetLife Stadium. Prior to the concert, the DelVecchios had reached out to Swift’s public relations team several times, requesting a meet-and-greet with Swift. However, they did not receive any response from the team.

During the concert, a security guard instructed Grace and her dad to move to the ninth row where they were sitting. Swift, who was in the midst of singing “Enchanted” – the song that usually comes before “22” – would traditionally give her fedora to an audience member during the latter song. Michael left all their belongings and made their way to the front, where Swift knelt down and placed the fedora on Grace’s head.

Michael couldn’t help the goosebumps he felt as he saw Swift fulfilling his daughter’s dream. Her goal had been to see her idol, Taylor Swift, perform live for years. The father of two had initially been unable to secure tickets during the presale on Nov. 15, but eventually got tickets days before Christmas.

The experience for Grace and her family was unforgettable, with her mother, Theresa DelVecchio, stating that anyone who saw the video of Swift giving her hat to Grace would have cried. Grace’s speech-language pathologist teacher was also in attendance at the concert and collapsed to the ground sobbing when she saw Grace on the big screen.

The best part of the experience for the family has been the outpouring of love they have received from people they had not spoken to in years, all touched by this special moment of “Grace” that Taylor Swift brought to her young fan.
