Megan McQuade, a pregnant woman from Teesside, believes that her unborn child saved her life after an ultrasound scan of her womb revealed that she had early-stage bladder cancer. Megan had been trying to conceive for over two years, and everything seemed to be progressing well until she experienced light bleeding when she was six weeks pregnant. When she went for a scan, a shadow on her bladder was discovered, and she was urged to have it investigated. However, she forgot about the shadow and medical advice due to the joy of seeing her baby for the first time. It was during her next scan that the situation became more serious, and she was urged to see a GP.

In December, Megan was informed that it could be cancer, and the possibility of chemotherapy was raised. However, she had a biopsy and surgery in January, which went well, and it was determined that she did not need any further treatment. Megan and her partner are expecting their baby in July, and they are grateful that the baby’s presence led to the discovery and treatment of her cancer.

Catherine Robinson, a spokesperson for Right to Life UK, said …

“It’s wonderful not only that Megan didn’t have an abortion that she clearly did not want, but also that her own unborn baby was the reason that her cancer was found and treated in the first place.”
