Abortion has been a hotly contested issue in many decades of presidential debate. But one GOP candidate doesn’t have the guts to debate pro-life issues. The former governor from Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, announced earlier this month that he intends to run for President as a Republican. Is this a RINO spotting? Typically, it’s the democrats who dodge pro-life matters and shout about abortion from the rooftop. But this is what former Governor Asa Hutchinson had to say.

Abortion won’t be a priority for voters in 2024, according to former Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who announced earlier this month that he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination. “It’s going to have a political impact,” Hutchinson said of abortion in an interview with NBC News airing Tuesday. “But it’ll settle as time goes on. The important thing for candidates, for anybody in the public arena, is to state your conviction.”

Hutchinson told the Iowa Capital Dispatch last week that he thinks the other issues that are going to be critically important are still the economy, it’s still the strength of our military and how we’re going to approach and counter China and their aggressiveness. “So I don’t see [abortion] as an issue that’s going to hurt us long term,” he added.

The reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court was a huge victory for Republicans and the pro-life movement. However, that reversal caused some pushback from the states that affected the 2022 midterms. Republicans and the pro-life movement will have to be smart about how they answer this pushback for the 2024 election. The pro-life group, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, has been tracking the Biden Administration’s policies and have dubbed them as the “most pro-abortion administration ever.” They also provide a report card for elected members. Where does Asa Hutchinson hope to score on this report card? If abortion is to be on the back burner, then we can’t expect him to score very high. Former Governor Asa Hutchinson will hold an event in Bentonville, Arkansas next Wednesday, April 26 to officially announce his campaign for president.
