Men have feelings too. Through a new study it was revealed that “many men” whose partners have an abortion, experience worsened mental health and feelings of regret afterward. The study, which was commissioned by Support After Abortion, was conducted by ShapardResearch of Oklahoma City and came back with multiple conclusions to show men are not alone in their ill feelings after an abortion.

Governor Youngkin’s New Promise: A 15-week Abortion Ban, But There’s a Twist

Key Findings
The study found that 71% of all men whose partners have an abortion had worsened mental health no matter if they were pro-life or pro-choice. But it doesn’t stop there. The study also found that over 83% of men said they have either looked for help or could have benefited from help with their emotions.

The Purpose
Support After Abortion immersed themselves fully into this study as the author, Greg Mayo, had his own abortion pain and wanted to investigate the topic. The study found that men manifest their pain due to abortion in many ways, such as “depression, sadness, guilt, regret, anxiety, anger, thoughts of what could have been, emptiness, substance abuse, a sense of lost fatherhood, and other emotions.” Though out of all men who experience some sort of after-abortion pain, only half seek out help.

Results
Mayo himself felt that he did not deserve to feel pain after two instances of abortion in his own life. Which was only confirmed after speaking with a therapist who told him to move past it. Mayo now feels, after getting the studies results back, that many men feel the same way as he has and that has only made him release that men’s feelings on the subject matter. Just because men are not the ones physically having an abortion, does not mean they are not feeling the side effects of losing a child and the ‘what could have been’ aspect of a future that is no more.
