The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to prevent the Department of Defense (DOD) from using taxpayer funds for travel expenses related to abortions sought by military women. The vote came as the House was considering amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), an annual defense policy bill. The amendment, put forth by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), passed with a narrow margin of 221-213, mostly along party lines.

Jackson tweeted:

“My amendment to STOP Biden from using the DOD to pay for abortion travel PASSED. This policy is ILLEGAL, and soon, it will be GONE. This is a GREAT DAY for our country!!”

Another amendment passed which prohibits the DOD from funding transgender medical procedures for military personnel. However, an amendment proposed by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to ban federal funds for diversity, equity, and inclusion training was voted down. The NDAA, with the approved amendments, is expected to be voted on by the House soon.
