The Florida Heartbeat bill has advanced a step ahead as the Florida Senate passed the bill Monday. This passage in the state’s Senate will move the bill to it’s next step in becoming a law. The bill will be voted on by the state’s House of Representatives. This is expected to take place sometime this week. The bill is expected to pass in the House of Representatives, which would send it to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk to be signed into law.

Everyone’s Talking About It
The bill has been highly publicized as it would take Florida’ standing 15-week abortion law to the next level. As can be imaged this has been highly scrutinized by the left as Florida aims to improve their law and further protect its citizens. The current 15-week law does not have exceptions for rape or incest but this new bill would include exceptions for rape, incest, and human trafficking. It would go as far as to provide women an additional 9 weeks, taking the deadline to 15 weeks, in those instances.

Senate Results And The Future
In the case of the new 6 week bill, Florida Senators voted to approve and send it to the Florida House of Representatives 26 to 13. Republican Senators Alexis Catalayud and Corey Simon of NW Florida joined the Democrats in opposition. Democrats tried to add a religious exemption to the bill, though Republicans defeated that ridiculous idea and were able to get it passed.

As the bill heads to the state House of Representatives we look ahead. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has said that he would sign the bill into law “to protect women and unborn babies.” So it seems this first step in the state Senate was the big hurdle in getting the bill passed. We are now only steps away from getting the bill passed and protecting more of the citizens in the state of Florida.
