ABC News has reported that medical students, “future doctors,” are looking outside of abortion-ban states for work. OB-GYN Residency Programs across the country, in states with abortion bans in place, seem to have had a drop in application numbers and interest as many of those students look for programs to join in states without bans. Leading to a nearly 5% decrease in applications for those focusing on an OB-GYN program.

Speaking Out
Many medical students in an OB-GYN program have spoken out about the decrease and their opinions. Many are stating they are looking for or only applied to, programs in states that do not have abortion bans. Many gave the same reason, being that they wanted to learn all that they could about their field, and in states with bans they wouldn’t learn abortion techniques.

What do you think about this? Should medical students be able to learn abortion techniques? Should that education be provided? Should it be provided in states with bans, on the basis of learning about a specialty? Sound off in the comments below.
