A 33-year-old nurse from England was accused of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder 10 others between June 2015 and June 2016 while working at the Countess of Chester Hospital. She was arrested on July 3, 2018, at her home in Chester, England. Upon further investigation, the case only got more disturbing.

A Nurse Arrested
Lucy Letby, a young nurse from England was accused of murdering babies in the hospital under her care. However, once she was arrested – two years after the alleged crimes occurred – more was uncovered leaving a dark path in England following Letby. After her arrest, police investigated her three-bedroom home where they uncovered note after note Letby wrote incriminating herself.

Police Found Insane Evidence
Police found three notes alone in one of Letby’s purses. Those notes contained written words filling pages with disturbing things and a love confession to a doctor colleague. Through the letters, it is clear that Letby was struggling with some sort of mental health issue. She wrote many times about how she couldn’t do it anymore, and even plead for help. Though as police continued their search, they found incriminating written evidence supporting their accusations against Letby. They found a diary that contained an entry referencing “twins” coinciding with twin patients Letby had had and attempted to murder.

Her Confession
Even worst as police continued to search they found exactly what they needed, Letby’s written confession. One such entry stated “I don’t deserve to live. I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them,” “I am a horrible evil person” and in all capital letters, Letby had written, “I am evil I did this.” In another entry, they found a similar confession stating, “I killed them. I don’t know if I killed them. Maybe I did. Maybe this is down to me.”

A trial
Letby is on trial and so far the jury has been able to hear each and every letter she wrote. Police had found a total of 257 handover sheets, in which 21 specific patient names were written. It is believed she harmed each of those babies. Letby’s trial is ongoing, however, Letby has denied all charges and continues to plead her innocence. Guess we will see if the jury believes her, but with the amount of evidence against her, it would be near impossible.
